Minister for Training and Skills Steve Herbert today announced a new chair for the Adult, Community and Further Education (ACFE) Board.
Sue Christophers will take over the role from Ron Wilson, who has been acting chair since July when Ro Allen left to take up the position of Victoria’s first Gender and Sexuality Commissioner.
The ACFE Board promotes adult learning, allocates resources, develops policies and advises the Minister on matters relating to adult education with a particular focus on disadvantaged learners.
Through the Board, the Andrews Labor Government provides funding to Learn Local organisations, and two adult education institutions, the CAE and AMES Australia, for the delivery of education and training programs to a broad range of Victorians over compulsory school-leaving age.
This includes young people, older people, people with special needs, people from diverse cultural backgrounds, with a special focus on people who have had limited prior access to education.
Ms Christophers was until recently Executive Director in the International Education Division of the Victorian Department of Education and Training.
Awarded a Public Service Medal in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List 2015, Ms Christophers has led policy and service delivery reform at state, national and international level.
From 2000 to 2003, she led the Department’s support of the ACFE Board.
