New Beach Promenade Coming To Carrum

06 August 2017

The Andrews Labor Government is investing $50 million to revitalise Carrum, transforming the bayside suburb and creating new open space for the community to enjoy all year round.

Premier Daniel Andrews joined Member for Carrum Sonya Kilkenny today to announce the extension of McLeod Road all the way to the beach.

The upgrade, made possible by the level crossing removal works, will build a brand new beach promenade and create new parkland and picnic areas close to the bay.

Beyond the promenade, Carrum village will be transformed when the existing train storage facility is relocated to a site near Kananook Station, creating even more landscaped open space around the new Carrum Station.

During community engagement over the past year, many local residents asked the Level Crossing Removal Authority to look at ways to improve beach access and car parking in the area.

Consultation will continue following today’s announcement with further opportunities for local residents to provide their feedback about the beach promenade design.

In the next few months, a Community Revitalisation Reference Group led by specialist urban designers will also be established to work with the winning contractor to transform the community’s ideas into reality.

To make way for the new promenade – which will run between the Nepean Highway and Carrum beach – five properties will need to be acquired on the Nepean Highway.

The Level Crossing Removal Authority will work closely with all affected properties to assist them through the acquisition process.

The Labor Government is removing nine more level crossings on the Frankston line, as well as building five new stations, upgrading signalling, and giving local communities better roads and public transport.

The Frankston line project will create thousands of jobs during construction, and provide skills and opportunities to hundreds of apprentices, trainees and cadets through the Major Projects Skills Guarantee.
