New Appointments To Trust For Nature Board

25 August 2017

The Andrews Labor Government has announced the appointment of five new members and one reappointment to the Trust for Nature board.

Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change Lily D’Ambrosio announced the addition of the trustees today and said each new face would bring a range of skills to Victorian land protection and conservation.

Mr James Bentley, Dr Georgia Garrard, Dr Sandra Olga Brizga, Ms Katherine Cary and Ms Binda Gokhale have been appointed to the board following a publicly advertised expression of interest process.

Mr Geoff Driver has also been reappointed as a trustee through the expression of interest process.

The six trustees bring with them a wealth of experience in conservation, strategic planning, business and financial management, fundraising and philanthropy, and indigenous cultural heritage.

They have been appointed to their roles until 8 December 2019.

Their appointments also mark another step in the Labor Government’s push to improve the representation of women on Victorian boards, with the 10-person Trust for Nature board now including seven women.

The Trust for Nature plays a unique role in protecting the diverse range of native plants, animals and habitats on private land in perpetuity – a key role in biodiversity conservation in Victoria.

It’s also incorporating climate change adaptation and mitigation considerations in its conservation planning and was an important contributor to the development of the Labor Government’s long term plan Protecting Victoria’s Environment- Biodiversity 2037.
