New Appointment To The Board Of Victoria Legal Aid

Attorney-General Martin Pakula today announced the appointment of former Victoria Law Foundation executive director Joh Kirby to the board of Victoria Legal Aid.

Ms Kirby is a lawyer, consultant and an experienced board member, and brings significant executive management and legal sector experience to Victoria Legal Aid.

She has a deep understanding of the legal system in Victoria, with a focus on the running of statutory bodies and independent legal services.

As head of the Victoria Law Foundation for nine years, Ms Kirby led efforts to help Victorians better understand the law and the legal system through the Foundation’s state-wide education and grants programs.

Ms Kirby has particular expertise in using plain English to make law more accessible, and is an Executive Member of Clarity International, an association dedicated to promoting plain legal language.

She previously worked as a lawyer at Corrs Chambers Westgarth and has served on various boards and committees, including the Monash University Law Faculty, the Gertrude Projection Association and the Victorian Legal Assistance Forum.

Ms Kirby holds a Bachelor of Laws from Monash University, a Bachelor of Applied Science from the University of Canberra, and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
