Minister for Health Jill Hennessy today officially opened the Stage 3 redevelopment of Frankston Hospital, including its new and larger emergency department.

Double the original floor size, the new emergency department features a Short Stay Unit with a bariatric bed, a fast track area with paediatric and family spaces, medical imaging facilities, a dedicated mental health area, a resuscitation area and triage and treatment spaces.

The redevelopment also includes three inpatient wards, two additional special care nursery cots and two extra intensive care unit beds.

The project will also include a new operating theatre for vascular surgery and the old site will be refurbished to house specialist clinics for maternity services and orthopaedic services, to be built in coming months.

The redevelopment program for Frankston Hospital began under the former Bracks Labor Government.

The Andrews Labor Government is committed to increasing hospital bed and theatre capacity, and has appointed respected surgeon and former AMA Victoria President Doug Travis to audit Victoria’s hospitals to find the Liberals’ missing beds.

The Government has also committed $106.3 million to the expansion of Casey Hospital, $150 million for a new specialist Victorian Heart Hospital in Clayton and a $20 million for the expansion of the Angliss Hospital.

Frankston Hospital emergency department is one of Victoria’s busiest, with over 62,000 people presenting last year.
