More Kinder For More Kids In Melbourne’s West

17 April 2018

The Andrews Labor Government is giving families in Wyndham more access to kinder, with the opening of a new state-of-the art relocatable building.

Minister for Early Childhood Education Jenny Mikakos today opened Tarneit North Kindergarten, a purpose built relocatable kinder providing an additional 231 kindergarten places.

The new kindergarten is located at Goddard Street Reserve, adjacent to Tarneit P-9 College and Tarneit Senior Secondary College.

It is one of two being placed in Wyndham in 2018, with the second located at Wyndham Vale Primary School.

Together the two facilities will provide up to 297 kindergarten places, and are brand new, purpose-built and designed specifically for preschool use.

They will help meet the urgent demand for kindergarten places while permanent centres such as the Truganina East Integrated Learning Family Centre are being built.

Relocatable kindergartens have also been delivered to Hume as part of a $4.25 million project, funded through the Labor Government’s Growth Areas Infrastructure Contribution, to meet the rapid population growth in these two key areas.

The Government has invested a record $123.6 million to build, expand and improve early years infrastructure across Victoria to ensure local families can continue to access great local kindergartens.

Wyndham families will also benefit from the Government’s $202.1 million Education State Early Childhood Reform Plan, announced in the Victorian Budget 2017/18.

This reform plan recognises the importance of providing families with strong support in early childhood, so kids are ready for kinder, ready for school and ready for life.
