Labor is helping more Victorians live and work in the regions with more affordable housing in north-east Victoria.

Nine new worker accommodation units will help attract more professionals to Northeast Health Wangaratta.

Minister Settle today visited the health service to mark completion of the project, made possible by the Allan Labor Government’s Regional Worker Accommodation Fund.

Northeast Health Wangaratta provides care and services for more than 90,000 people across northeast Victoria and is the major referral facility for people from Beechworth, Benalla, Bright, Euroa, Yarrawonga and beyond.

The fully furnished units provide 16 bedrooms for healthcare workers and their families, offering modern and affordable accommodation for short or longer stays, located next to the hospital and near the town’s centre.

The units will help ease pressure on the town’s broader rental market, making housing more available for locals.

The Regional Worker Accommodation Fund will unlock around $370 million in new housing investment for thousands of regional workers.

This accommodation will be available to Northeast Health Wangaratta workers for a minimum of five years, with the potential for the units to be made available to the private market after this point, depending on the needs within Northeast Health Wangaratta and the broader community.

Northeast Health Wangaratta's new units are among more than 40 accommodation projects across Victoria.

Only Labor is investing in regional Victoria, with more than $50 billion delivered over the past decade to make our regional cities and towns better places to live, work, and study.

The Liberals and Nationals will cut the services regional communities rely on, putting jobs, healthcare and local economies at risk.
