Every Victorian deserves a safe place to live, and the Andrews Labor Government is investing more than ever in building new homes for those who need it most.

Minister for Housing Richard Wynne today visited the recently completed $2.7 million social housing development on Coburns Road in Melton South, which is part of the Labor Government’s landmark $5.3 billion Big Housing Build.

The development has eight two-bedroom, single-storey townhouses, increasing much needed housing options for people at risk of or experiencing homelessness, aged and disability pensioners, and women and children escaping family violence. It has also generated a positive economic benefit for the area, creating 23 local jobs.

The homes were delivered in partnership with community housing agency Community Housing (Vic) Limited, which will own the homes and manage tenancies.

Through its record investment in housing, the Government is creating a pipeline of modern, fit-for-purpose social housing for people who need a roof over their heads, and the jobs that go with building them.

The Melton South development adds to more than 1,100 homes that are already under construction across the State as part of the Big Housing Build. More than $1 billion has been spent on construction and development since the program started, creating 2,500 jobs.

The Big Housing Build is the largest single investment in social and affordable housing in Australia’s history and will deliver more than 12,000 new homes across Victoria.

This historic investment will boost Victoria’s social housing supply by 10 per cent, while creating 10,000 jobs a year over the four year program.
