More Health Services For West Gippsland

21 September 2022

Locals in West Gippsland now have access to additional essential health services closer to home thanks to the Andrews Labor Government.

The Trafalgar Primary Care Centre has been supported through the Labor Government’s Latrobe Valley Economic Facilitation Fund providingmore health and wellbeing services to the local community and creating 12 new jobs.

The expanded centre has undergone a major renovation, with new and improved medical equipment and IT systems installed to better service the community.

The centre provides access to a range of essential and preventative health services including X-ray and skin cancer screening, as well as psychology, physiotherapy, podiatry, speech pathology, audiology and optometry.

New jobs created as part of the expansion include a GP registrar, junior doctor, radiographer, physiotherapist, speech pathologist, practice nurse and administration staff.

The expanded health services and expertise means locals no longer need to travel to other towns for screening, imaging and other allied health services.

It will be operated by Trafalgar Medical and will also provide training to GP registrars, interns, medical students, nursing students and administration staff.

The new centre is located opposite Trafalgar Medical and offers after-hours services to cater for the community and people throughout the region.

Trafalgar Medical will be able to refer patients to the Primary Care Centre for additional health services – making the experience easier for patients and allowing doctors to monitor their outcomes.

The $10 million Latrobe Valley Economic Facilitation Fund was established as the first initiative under the $40 million Latrobe Valley Economic Development Program to support new and better jobs in the Latrobe Valley.
