Every Victorian woman and child deserves to be safe – whether it’s at home, at work or in their community.

For those experiencing family violence, safety shouldn’t mean losing their home, stability or connection.

That’s why the Allan Labor Government is boosting support to help victim-survivors stay safe and rebuild their lives.

Keeping women safe in their own home

The burden of family violence should not fall on the victim – women and children shouldn’t be forced to leave their homes to feel safe.

That’s why the Victorian Budget 2026/27 will invest $3.5 million to expand the Personal Safety Initiative.

The Personal Safety Initiative allows victim survivors to access important, but often costly, practical security upgrades.

This includes stronger doors and locks, alarms, lighting and security cameras.

It means more women will be able to access this program and feel safe in their own home.

Strengthening the Women’s Safety Package

Women and children from diverse backgrounds experiencing family violence often face unique barriers, risks and gaps in accessing support.

That’s why Labor is investing $6.4 million from the Strengthening Women’s Safety Package to expand access to specialist family violence support for:

  • Multicultural and multifaith women
  • Women on temporary visas
  • Children and young people
  • Older women
  • Women leaving prison
  • Women with disability
  • Gender diverse Victorians.

It means more women get access to the support they need when fleeing violence – from food or a place to sleep.

Victoria is the nation’s leader in preventing and responding to family violence – but there’s more to do.

That’s why Labor will continue backing the services that keep women and children safe across all communities.
