The Andrews Labor Government’s Mordialloc Freeway will take thousands of trucks off local roads in the south east, slash travel times and give local residents safer and quieter streets.
An Environment Effects Statement (EES) for the $375 million Mordialloc Freeway has been released today, showing that the project will deliver massive benefits for drivers, walkers, cyclists and the environment.
Minister for Roads Luke Donnellan today opened the public consultation period and invited the public to provide feedback on the EES documents for the project.
The more than 7,000 page report comprehensively assesses the environmental effects and benefits of the project, finding it will deliver travel time savings of more than 10 minutes between the Mornington Peninsula Freeway and the Dingley Bypass.
The new freeway will take 13,000 trucks off nearby arterial and local roads every day, giving local roads back to local residents from Aspendale Gardens through to Dingley Village and beyond.
Noise walls will be constructed along the new Mordialloc Freeway to reduce vehicle noise near residential areas including Dingley Village, Aspendale Gardens and Waterways.
Wildlife underpasses will be constructed to allow animals to access both sides of the freeway and fauna fencing will prevent wildlife from walking onto the road and reduce the impact of light and noise on wildlife in Braeside Park.
Twin bridge structures will be built over the Waterways wetlands allowing light to reach vegetation underneath while no-go zones will minimise impacts of construction on the natural environment.
A shared user path will be built along the entire length of the 9 kilometre freeway, offering a safer route for cyclists and pedestrians.
The EES will be on display for 30 business days at locations in Dingley Village, Cheltenham, Chelsea, Dandenong, Springvale and Melbourne CBD as well as online at roadprojects.vic.gov.au.
