Experts from Monash University will examine how Victorians experiencing family violence are supported by frontline services around the state, helping to build a strong and consistent approach to supporting victims.
Minister for Families and Children Jenny Mikakos today announced Monash University as the successful tenderer to conduct an in-depth review of Victoria’s Family Violence Risk Assessment and Risk Management Framework (CRAF).
The CRAF is used by practitioners across a wide range of fields to consistently understand, identify and manage risk factors associated with family violence.
The review responds to the first recommendation from the Royal Commission into Family Violence, which calls for a framework that reflects best practice and meets the needs of victims from all walks of life.
As part of the review, Monash University’s School of Social Sciences will conduct extensive consultation with peak bodies, experts in family violence, frontline users of the CRAF, family violence service providers, and survivors from diverse areas of the community.
The review will also gather evidence of current best practice nationally and internationally. It is due to be completed later this year.
The Royal Commission handed down its findings on 29 March 2016. The Government will implement all 227 recommendations and recently announced almost $10 million of immediate funding for family violence victim survivors.
The new Victim-Survivors’ Advisory Council, chaired by former Australian of the Year Rosie Batty, and a Family Violence Steering Committee, will also help in the long-term reform of the family violence system.
