Minister Welcomes New Our Watch Board Appointment

13 August 2015

Minister for the Prevention of Family Violence Fiona Richardson has welcomed the appointment of Ms Sherryl Garbutt to the Our Watch board.

The Our Watch board will meet today for the first time since Ms Garbutt’s appointment.

Ms Garbutt joins five other board members and Chair Natasha Stott Despoja and Deputy Chair Dr Phil Lambert.

Ms Garbutt was selected for her experience as a former Victorian Minister for Community Services, Women’s Affairs, and Environment & Conservation.

She was a board member of the State Library of Victoria from 2007-2013 and has previously served as Chair of the Victorian Children’s Council.

Our Watch was established in 2013 by the Victorian and Commonwealth governments with the aim to change the attitudes, behaviours, social norms and power imbalances that underpin or support violence against women and children.

The Commonwealth and Victorian governments each select one board member for the Our Watch board.

The Victorian government invests $1.4 million in Our Watch to deliver prevention programs in hospitals, schools and in culturally and linguistically diverse communities.
