The Allan Labor Government is giving more healthcare workers, including doctors and nurses, the chance to work and live in Shepparton, with new staff housing nearing a critical construction milestone.

Minister for Health Mary-Anne Thomas today visited the new three-storey staff accommodation complex to inspect the progress on site, as the project nears structural completion.

The new complex will help address the gap in housing for frontline healthcare workers across the Goulburn Valley and will support the health service to attract and retain a highly skilled local workforce into the region.

When the project is complete, it will be home to 18 self-contained units, 15 single room flats and three double flats – and will feature relaxing outdoor garden areas and parking for 19 vehicles.

Importantly, the site has direct and secure connection to the hospital making it easier to get to work, while also improving safety for staff on call after hours.

As structural works near completion, works will now begin on the building’s internal fit-out and external façade, ahead of completion in 2026.

The project is led by the Victorian Health Building Authority, in partnership with Goulburn Valley Health and builder Hansen Yuncken – supporting up to 30 construction jobs during the build.

The $10.2 million project is being funded through the Labor Government’s massive Regional Health Infrastructure Fund (RHIF) – now worth a total of $790 million, it helps health services across the state deliver a range of projects.

Projects range from theatre refurbishments, new waiting rooms and hospital beds, accessible paths and ramps, additional consulting rooms, expansion projects and equipment upgrades.

Since establishing the RHIF in 2016, the Labor Government has funded more than 670 projects for regional health services – ensuring Victorians living in the regions can access the very best care, in modern, safe, facilities.
