Melbourne retailers are settling into their new homes as part of the Allan Labor Government’s Metro Tunnel Project – delivering passengers a range of food, drink and grocery offerings across the five new stations.

Retail fit outs are well underway and will soon provide convenience for the thousands of passengers who will travel through the stations every day.

Across the five stations there will be around 27 retail spaces, with more than 90 per cent of retail tenancies now leased and to progressively open next year.

Confirmed retailers will be spread across the five stations as follows:

  • Parkville Station –7-Eleven and Sushi Sushi (open 30 Nov), KFC and McDonald’s (open by end of 2025), People's Coffee
  • Arden Station – Train Café
  • State Library Station – Sharetea (open by end of 2025), Mr Ramen
  • Town Hall Station – Sushi Jiro (open by end of 2025), McDonald’s, Starbucks, KFC, IGA, Brunetti’s Oro
  • Anzac Station – 7-Eleven (open 30 Nov), Dumpling Chef.

Campbell Arcade’s eight shopfronts will also reopen following a major upgrade of the iconic 1950s arcade that connects Flinders Street and Town Hall stations.

Today, a new entrance at State Library Station will also open to passengers – with people able to enter the station’s grand main entrance on the corner of Swanston and La Trobe streets and connect to Melbourne Central Station by tapping on with their Myki.

The Metro Tunnel is the biggest transformation of Victoria’s rail network in 40 years, doubling the size of Melbourne’s underground rail system, and paving the way for more trains, more often.

From Sunday, public transport will be free every weekend for every Victorian, everywhere, until Sunday 1 February – when the new Metro Tunnel stations will be fully integrated into the wider network as part of the Big Switch.

Never forget, the Liberals called the Metro Tunnel a “hoax”. They consistently refused to fund it. Never in their wildest dreams did they think it would actually get built. Labor will open it on Sunday.
