Mernda’s New Police Station Finds A Home

18 November 2015

Melbourne’s new northern crime-fighting hub is a step closer to completion after the Andrews Labor Government kept its promise to build a police station in Mernda.

Minister for Police Wade Noonan joined Member for Yan Yean Danielle Green in Mernda today to announce that the new $15 million station will be built on the corner of Bridge Inn Rd and Pimpinella Pass.

The new station, which was funded in the Government’s first Budget, is in an ideal location behind the Bridge Inn Hotel, with room to expand if needed.

Construction is due to begin next year and the station is expected to be operational in 2017.

The station will house uniformed officers, a family violence unit, a criminal investigation unit, and a divisional response unit, along with other police units and administrative staff.

The site for the Mernda Police Station comes as the Government has provided Victoria Police with a record budget of $2.5 billion and funded more than 600 additional police personnel.

These include 400 custody officers to allow frontline police to be redeployed to the beat, forensic scientists, transit police, PSOs and detectives in a dedicated sex offenders supervision unit.

In addition, the Government is building a new P-12 school and the Mernda Rail Link to give the growing communities of Mernda and Doreen the support they need.
