Minister for Racing Martin Pakula today announced funding of more than $53,000 to support the Make it to Mortlake race meeting this Saturday.

The Mortlake Racing Club conducts one meeting a year, featuring the Mortlake Cup, to coincide with Derby Day.

The Andrews Labor Government will contribute almost $26,500 towards the event, with the club providing more than $17,600 and a further $9000 from Country Racing Victoria.

The focus this year will again be on families, with a range of children’s activities including sporting events, a fun zone with an inflatable activity centre, climbing wall, mechanical bull and face painting. There will also be a mobile zoo and a sheep ‘n’ dog dash race with children in costume.

Two marquee package options will be on offer including the Grand Marquee where racegoers will be entertained by musical comedians Rusty and Another Guy throughout the day.

The Hexham Reunion Marquee will allow former members and supporters of the Hexham Football Club to get together to reminisce about the club and its 1981 premiership win.

There will also be a Fashions on the Field competition and an on-course competition for the Mortlake Cup with the winner collecting a $2,500 travel voucher.

Free return bus travel will be provided from Warrnambool, Cobden, Camperdown, Terang, Port Fairy, Woorndoo and Lake Bolac.

After the last race, the popular cover band Rockefeller will keep the entertainment going with three sets from 6.30pm to 9pm.
