At least 10 per cent of the work carried out on Victoria’s major projects will be undertaken by apprentices, trainees or engineering cadets.
Minister for Public Transport and Employment Jacinta Allan today announced the Major Projects Skills Guarantee, which mandates minimum apprenticeship requirements for all publically funded major projects.
The Major Projects Skills Guarantee will ensure Victorian workers benefit from the multi-billion dollar pipeline of major projects the Andrews Labor Government is delivering, giving young job-seekers and workers looking to re-skill, the experience and opportunities they need to kick-start their careers.
The Guarantee, which fulfils yet another Labor Government election commitment, will apply to all government construction, infrastructure, civil engineering and capital projects valued at more than $20 million.
Construction companies bidding for projects under $20 million will also be encouraged to maximise their use of local apprentices, trainees and engineering cadets.
