Local Crime Prevention Grants Now Open

The Andrews Labor Government is investing in local community crime prevention projects with applications now open for the Community Safety Fund.

Minister for Crime Prevention Ben Carroll was in Bayswater today to announce applications for Community Safety Fund grants of up to $25,000 are now open.

Since 2015, the Labor Government has provided almost $3 million in Community Safety Fund grants to help support 460 crime prevention projects across Victoria. This includes the 2nd/3rd Bayswater Scout Group, which last year received $10,000 to install a fence around the perimeter of their hall.

Victorian councils and not-for-profit groups can apply for two streams of grants.

Stream 1 grants can be for up to $10,000 and are aimed at preventing crime relating to community facilities and public spaces, which includes the installation of security equipment, as well as small-scale improvements streetscapes, parks and reserves.

Stream 2 projects can be for up to $25,000 and are aimed at education and awareness initiatives focussing on home safety, theft from businesses, personal property theft in public places and theft of and from motor vehicles.

Applicants can also apply for stream 2 grants for projects that help to boost understanding of the justice system, as part of an expanded awareness and education grant focus this year.

Applications for this latest grant round will close at 4pm on Friday 18 October 2019.
