People living and working in the Mallee are invited to register to attend this year’s Regional Assembly, to be held in Kerang on 31 May.
The Regional Assemblies began in 2016 and are the cornerstone of the Andrews Labor Government’s year-round consultation with regional Victorians through its nine Regional Partnerships.
In 2017, more than 2,000 people attended Regional Assemblies, helping identify and refine their region’s priorities – including at the 2017 Assembly in Swan Hill.
This year’s Assembly will be a chance for residents, community organisations and businesses to hear what the Partnership has achieved to date, and help further shape its priorities.
Access to services (particularly in the early years), digital and transport connectivity, tourism and sustaining small towns, and economic development are all expected to be on the agenda.
Over the past 18 months, the Mallee Regional Partnership has had a significant impact. Its voice – and that of others – led to a $45 million boost for digital initiatives across the state.
The Partnership’s efforts also led to support for tourism infrastructure at Lake Tyrrell, the redevelopment of sports facilities in Donald and for community hubs at Charlton and the Robinvale School.
The Partnership, which works to bring different groups together, has been instrumental in developing a business case to establish a Cross Border Commissioner’s Office for Victoria, and supported the first regional skills taskforce – which resulted in the Victorian Skills Commissioner’s report “Regional Skills Demand for the Mallee.”
