All eyes were on Cobram’s new streetscape tonight, with Minister for Regional Development Jaala Pulford switching on the lights for the first time at the official opening of the $1.21 million improvement project.
The Victorian Government invested $960,000 in the project which has improved pedestrian linkages and revitalised Cobram’s Central Business District.
The new look for Cobram’s CBD includes improved street furniture and a flexible community space that can be used for arts and cultural festivals.
The project has also improved accessibility for those residents with mobility issues, and improved the safety of the precinct for pedestrians, particularly seniors and parents with young children.
It will help Cobram position itself as one of the region’s significant retail and service centres, while tree planting, garden beds and a lawn area have also been incorporated to create an environment that will attract more locals and visitors.
Victorian Government funding for the project was provided to the Moira Shire Council, which contributed $250,000.
In designing the project, Moira Shire Council consulted widely with the local community who identified social inclusion, community pride and cohesiveness, and the need to improve opportunities for local businesses, as key factors.
