The Carroll Labor Government is saving cohealth’s Collingwood site while providing housing for Victorians that need it most.
Minister for Housing Nick Staikos and Minister for Health Ingrid Stitt have today announced Labor will redevelop the Hoddle Street site – giving cohealth a permanent new home.
It means cohealth can keep delivering health and support services to the people who need them most.
The centre provides GP and nursing care, allied health and mental health support.
It also runs dedicated services for First Peoples, older Victorians and vulnerable members of the community.
cohealth will own the ground floor, where its health services will be delivered.
The redevelopment will also deliver 69 new social homes.
They will be available to any Victorian on the Housing Register and Victorians in need such as older people, and women and children escaping family violence.
Homes Victoria will partner with a community housing provider to develop and operate the social housing.
The project is seeking funding under the Housing Australia Future Fund, which supports social and affordable housing and other acute housing needs.
Housing Australia has indicated that it will support the delivery of the project through a funding allocation.
Construction is planned to commence late next year, with completion expected by mid-2029.
Across the City of Yarra, the Labor Government has invested more than $417 million in social housing programs.
This has funded 385 new social and affordable homes, with 231 already delivered.
Only Labor is building the homes and health services Victorians need.
Jess Wilson’s Liberal-One Nation Coalition have no plan for social housing and no plan for community health – only a plan for $40 billion of cuts.
