Labor Is Protecting Free TAFE From Liberal Cuts

Labor’s Free TAFE Guarantee has just passed Parliament.

It means at least 70 per cent of all vocational education and training funding will now go to TAFE.

This is about protecting TAFE, so students can get the skills they need for the secure job they want – for free.

While Labor is protecting Free TAFE, the Liberals are putting it at risk.

Right now, thousands of students are learning vital skills through Free TAFE.

Students are learning nursing, plumbing, disability support, clean energy and construction – all for free.

These students represent exactly why Free TAFE is so important.

More than 229,000 students have saved money from Labor’s Free TAFE since it began in 2019.

It’s saved them more than $777 million in tuition fees.

On average, that’s more than $3,390 per student.

This means students can spend more money on the things they need, like petrol, bills and groceries.

Under the Liberals, this is all at risk.

Victorians remember the shambles when the Liberals were last in power.

They sacked more than 2,000 TAFE teachers, shut 22 TAFE campuses and savagely ripped $1 billion from TAFEs.

Labor saved TAFE in Victoria.

We invested $16 billion to rebuild a crumbling TAFE sector, then made it even better with Free TAFE.

Labor will always back Free TAFE. That’s why we’ve passed the Free TAFE Guarantee – protecting it for the future.

Quotes attributable to Minister for Skills and TAFE Gayle Tierney

“Free TAFE is at risk under Jess Wilson’s Liberals – leaving students worse off.”

“We support Free TAFE so Victorians can get vital skills for secure jobs without having to pay.”

“While Labor is protecting Free TAFE, the Liberals are putting it at risk.”
