Labor is proud to invest in sport – because it supports jobs and boosts the economy.

A new era at Tigerland is one step closer with the Punt Road Redevelopment reaching the halfway point.

Acting Minister for Sport and Major Events Colin Brooks today announced the new Jack Dyer Stand is now 50 per cent complete.

The construction has reached its highest point – a huge milestone for the project which began construction in June.

The redevelopment is made possible by a $20 million investment by the Allan Labor Government.

Labor is proud to invest in sporting infrastructure, because it means we can host even more major events.

Our events calendar continues to break records year after year – filling our hotels, cafes, restaurants and bars.

Major events generate $3.3 billion a year for Victoria’s economy and support almost 300,000 jobs.

The new stand will feature changerooms, player spaces, recovery facilities and strength and conditioning areas.

It will also include an underground car park and a landscaped terrace, integrating the precinct with Yarra Park.

An oval expansion and oval realignment will ensure Punt Road Oval is able to host AFLW matches.

The Punt Road Oval facilities will also be home to community partner organisations including the Korin Garmadji Institute, Bachar Houli Foundation and Melbourne Indigenous Transition School.

The Albanese Labor Government, Australian Football League and Richmond Football Club have contributed additional support for the project.

Works are expected to be completed in 2027.
