The North Bendigo Football Netball Club will be better equipped to welcome more players, stage big events and train for success thanks to new lighting.
Today, Minister for Sport John Eren and Member for Bendigo West Maree Edwards flicked the switch at the North Bendigo Recreation Reserve for the first time, marking the beginning of a new era for the 2015 Heathcote District Football League premiers.
North Bendigo is one of Central Victoria’s most impressive sporting clubs, but ageing lighting has meant the Dogs have struggled to find space for the training sessions they need.
The Dogs might be flying on the field, but being forced to train at one end of their home ground has meant the turf has suffered a heavy toll. The premiers say being able to use the entire ground will mean fitter players and a stronger club.
Improved netball lighting will allow the Bulldogs players more time on court to improve their skills, while the club is already planning a midweek evening competition for junior and senior players.
At the nearby Shadforth Park, the Andrews Labor Government’s $100,000 investment means the Golden City Soccer Club can train longer into the night on both its pitches.
The Labor Government is giving all Victorians safe, modern facilities for sport and recreation, no matter where they live. Our $100 million Community Sports Infrastructure Fund is helping clubs update tired grounds and build the facilities they want, and we’re rolling out 1000 life-saving defibrillators for when sudden cardiac arrest strikes.

“We’re listening to local clubs, who say they need better lighting to accommodate increasing player numbers. We want our clubs to grow, and we’re getting on with the job of helping them do just that.”

“We’re committed to making sport and recreation readily available to all Victorians. Not just some Victorians – all Victorians.”
