A new pavilion at Duncan MacKinnon Reserve is giving local clubs the facilities they need and the community a space for sport it can be proud of.

Minister for Sport John Eren today joined Member for Oakleigh Steve Dimopoulos to open the new double-story pavilion made possible thanks to a $500,000 Andrews Labor Government grant.

Local communities deserve safe, modern facilities to play sport, make friends and enjoy the great outdoors. Labor promised them, and is getting on with the job of delivering them.

The new pavilion brings local clubs under the one roof, and that means closer communities. The renovations will help lure more events to Duncan MacKinnon Reserve, like regional school sports and athletics competitions.

The upgrade includes change rooms, two kiosks, umpires change facilities and first aid facilities. A new kitchen and community meeting rooms will help clubs welcome new members and stage vital fundraisers.

The Labor Government is listening to local clubs, who say they want to replace tired grounds and build the facilities they need to grow, and the Government’s $100 million Community Sports Infrastructure Fund just does that.

It includes $10 million for women’s change rooms – the single biggest investment in women’s participation in sport by a State Government in Australia – and the Government is also installing 1000 life-saving defibrillators at clubs across the state.

The Duncan MacKinnon Reserve project was funded in partnership with the Glen Eira City Council.
