The Allan Labor Government has delivered a new $41.1 million acute and residential aged care home in Cohuna.

Minister for Ageing Ingrid Stitt today announced that the first residents are now moving in.

The purpose-built facility will support the complex care needs of older residents, helping ensure they can age safely, with dignity and close to their families and support networks.

The 24-bed facility includes eight acute hospital beds and 16 aged care beds.

The aged care beds are grouped into small ‘households’, with access to a shared kitchen, dining, lounge and sitting areas.

Eight acute hospital beds are also available, helping to meet a range of care needs closer to home.

The new co-located facility replaces the Cohuna District Nursing Home and the current medical ward.

More than 540 workers contributed to the project, providing a major boost to the local economy.

Works are now underway to refurbish and repurpose the former Cohuna District Nursing Home.

The space will be converted into administrative areas and staff accommodation for Cohuna District Hospital.

These works are on track for completion in the coming months.
