One of Victoria’s biggest music exports, singer Kylie Minogue, has handed over a collection of her most spectacular and memorable costumes to the people of Victoria, in a generous donation to Arts Centre Melbourne.

Premier Daniel Andrews and Minister for Creative Industries, Martin Foley, met with Kylie before her performance at Rod Laver Arena tonight to receive the gift. It will become part of Arts Centre Melbourne’s nationally significant Performing Arts Collection.

The 20 costumes, made up of 60 individual items, include outfits designed by Jean Paul Gaultier for Kylie’s X2008 tour and the jacket she wore in her debut music video in 1988 with Locomotion – the song that catapulted her to stardom.

Items range from head-dresses and accessories to shoes, and include costumes worn in the video clips for Better Than Today, All the Lovers and Get Outta My Way (2010).

The Arts Centre Melbourne's Performing Arts Collection is Australia’s largest and most important collection of performing arts history and traditions. Established in 1975, it is formally recognised as a State Collection and encompasses the history of circus, dance, music, opera and theatre, with more than 600,000 items.

Kylie is performing at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena as part of her Kiss Me Once national tour.
