Kinglake’s main retail precinct is set for a revitalisation with a $750,000 grant from the Andrews Labor Government.
Minister for Regional Development Jaala Pulford announced the funding today, which will improve economic and community confidence in the area, which is still rebuilding following the 2009 bushfires.
The project will deliver much needed improvements for traffic and pedestrians, with upgrades to the three main entry points to town and enhancements to visitor facilities.
The project includes the sealing of Aitken Crescent and the car park, an upgrade of Glenburn Road and Whittlesea-Kinglake Road intersection, renewal of shared pedestrian pathways, improved street lighting, landscaping, additional tourist signage, new public toilets, bike parking furniture and provision for parking electric vehicles.
A concept plans for the project was completed in 2015 and the funding announced today includes the completion of detailed design as well as an updated community information session.
The project will create a more vibrant main street with appropriate parking and pedestrian access, encouraging more people to shop in town and visitors to stay a while.
Murrindindi Shire Council has identified the $1.74 million Kinglake Town Centre and Streetscape Renewal Project as a priority project, which will bring the community to life.
Murrindindi Shire is contributing $249,000 towards the project and is seeking further funds from the Federal Government.
