Jobs are growing in regional Victoria and unemployment has fallen to less than five percent, according to data released today.
The figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) show regional employment increased by 4,200 over the three months to June 2018, with Shepparton, Bendigo and Ballarat among the strongest performing regions.
It means 45,300 jobs have now been created in regional Victoria since the Andrews Labor Government was elected in 2014, contributing to sustained economic growth across the State.
This is in stark contrast to what occurred under the previous Liberal National Government, where less than 9,000 jobs were created in regional Victoria in four years.
Victoria’s regional unemployment rate of 4.9 per cent is now well below the national average of 5.7 per cent.
Victoria’s regional centres are leading the way, with unemployment decreasing significantly in Shepparton, Bendigo and Ballarat over the past three months, and recorded favourable decreases in unemployment in comparison to the same time last year.
The figures indicate regional employment across the State was driven by full-time job creation, with 8,600 full-time jobs created overall over the three-month period.
Today’s figures demonstrate the Labor Government’s tax cuts and investments are supporting strong, sustained economic growth for regional businesses and families.
