The Allan Labor Government is helping create more than 40 jobs in northern Victoria’s dairy sector.

Minister for Regional Development Jaclyn Symes today visited Tongala Nutrition to announce support for the company’s expansion through the new $150 million Victorian Investment Fund.

The company will upgrade technology and infrastructure at its dairy processing facility in Tongala.

The investment will help Tongala Nutrition grow its domestic and international markets.

It will add sustainable energy systems, new production equipment, and freight and supply-chain facilities.

Established last year, the Victorian Investment Fund is fast-tracking strategic investments across Victoria, with a dedicated $50 million regional stream supporting fast-growing regional businesses.

Five priority sectors have been identified for investment: advanced manufacturing and defence; health technologies and medical research; circular economy; digital technologies; and agribusiness.

Tongala Nutrition began producing nutrition products in 2023 after acquiring a former Nestle factory and with further upgrades, will increase production to the state’s booming food production industry.

It’s another success story for the small Victorian town, building on the recent government-supported expansion of Greenham Australia’s Tongala abattoir, that almost doubled production and created 270 jobs.

Supported by a Victorian Government investment, the project has seen Greenham nearly double its production at Tongala, creating 270 jobs and securing new contracts.

As Australia’s leading food and fibre exporter, Victoria achieved a record $20.1 billion in exports in 2023-24.

This latest investment in agribusiness reinforces Victoria’s position as a global leader in food production, creating jobs, driving economic growth, and supporting regional communities.
