Infrastructure Plan Provides Certainty For Victoria

18 October 2017

The Andrews Labor Government has responded to Victoria’s historic independent infrastructure blueprint, releasing the first five-year Victorian Infrastructure Plan, laying out the government’s infrastructure priorities over the coming years.

The Special Minister of State Gavin Jennings today released the Labor Government’s response to Infrastructure Victoria’s inaugural 30-year infrastructure strategy that was presented to government in December 2016.

The Victorian Infrastructure PlanExternal Link includes the Labor Government’s record $40 billion investment that is delivering the infrastructure our state needs – whether that’s building the Metro Tunnel to run more trains more often, removing dangerous level crossings to save lives and reduce congestion, or fixing local schools and hospitals.

The Plan also lays out our priorities for the next 5 years including properly planning and beginning the delivery of North-East Link – Infrastructure Victoria’s number one road project.

It also includes delivering the Regional Rail Revival that our regions need, and joining with the Commonwealth to plan for a future airport rail link – projects that will continue to boost jobs, improve transport links and ensure that Victoria remains the most liveable state.

The Labor Government has also responded to each of Infrastructure Victoria’s 137 recommendations. The Government has accepted the majority of its recommendations with 134 of them either supported in full or, in-principle, or partly supported.

Infrastructure Victoria was established to take the politics out of infrastructure and give our state the long term pipeline of projects we need. The 30-Year Infrastructure Strategy was the result of a year-long consultation and research process.

The Labor Government’s infrastructure plan will be updated annually and its progress will be assessed by Infrastructure Victoria, as we build the pipeline of projects that Victorians need as our state grows.
