Minister for Environment, Climate Change and Water Lisa Neville today announced 15 public land managers including volunteer organisations, will receive almost $700,000 to improve public coastal access and public safety for Victorians.

Through the 2015-16 Coastal Environments Program – Public Access and Risk, the Andrews Labor Government is committed to protecting the environment whilst ensuring better coastal infrastructure for safer and more enjoyable user experiences.

The Government has approved 21 separate grant applications under the 2015-16 Coastal Environments Program – Public Access and Risk to coastal Committees of Management.

These committees, run by volunteers and coastal councils, will use the funds to create new or enhance existing infrastructure, such as:

  • Repairs to improve beach stairways, boardwalks and access points;
  • Works on viewing platforms and lookouts;
  • Building of new access ramps, installing and improving public signage; and
  • Undertaking risk assessment and management plans for safer access.

These grants give critical support to committees that strive to improve public access and minimise risk by fully funding or part-funding these valuable projects.

A list of the grant recipients is provided on the next page and further information on the program can be found at www.delwp.vic.gov.au/parks-forests-and-crown-land/coasts,-bays-and-marine-areas(opens in a new window).
