Councils across Victoria are being invited to apply for a share of $500,000 in funding for better local taxi facilities through the latest round of the $5 million Taxi Rank Safety Program (TRSP).
Taxi ranks and associated infrastructure are critical transport hubs in local communities, in shopping and entertainment precincts.
The TRSP provides local councils with grants to install new infrastructure or improve existing facilities, to make waiting for a taxi safer, easier and more comfortable.
More than 40 Councils have benefited from the program since it was established in 2009 under the former Labor Government, installing infrastructure including new seating and shelters, better lighting and CCTV coverage.
Councils have until 16 March 2016 to lodge an application for funding under the 2015-16 program. Further information on the program is available from the Taxi Services Commission website .
