Guy Tries To Block Frankston Level Crossings Removal

Matthew Guy and the Liberals are trying to stop the Andrews Labor Government removing dangerous and congested level crossings on the Frankston line.

In a dangerous political stunt, the Liberals today will move to revoke the Planning Scheme Amendment that will enable extra train stabling to be built at Kananook and more frequent, reliable services on the Frankston line.

Currently there is insufficient train stabling on the Frankston line, with trains having to be stabled at locations on other lines – compromising reliability and punctuality for Frankston line passengers.

The removal of the level crossings at Carrum requires the current stabling to be removed – with Kananook stabling providing up to 24 trains, up from the current 6 at Carrum.

This is not the first time the Liberals have used a revocation motion when last sitting week they joined with the Greens political party to block two projects that would deliver critical housing, transport and other infrastructure.

The Liberals have previously attempted to block the Metro Tunnel project and Level Crossing removals on the Caulfield to Dandenong line.

These continuous political stunts set a disastrous precedent, threatening jobs and extra Frankston line services.

The Andrews Labor Government is getting on with the job of rolling out the biggest pipeline of public transport projects – the Liberals have opposed every single one.

Quotes attributable to Minister for Public Transport Jacinta Allan

“The Liberals are yet again opposing public transport for local communities – getting in the way of more trains, more often for Frankston line passengers.”

“This stabling is desperately needed, these dangerous level crossings need to go, and Matthew Guy needs to get out of the way.”

“Matthew Guy said just last week it’s time to take the politics out of infrastructure delivery – it’s time he took his own advice.”
