The Minister for Emergency Services, Jane Garrett, congratulated 30 new CFA recruits at a graduation ceremony at the Victorian Emergency Management Training Centre at Craigieburn today.

An intensive 19-week training course saw the new recruits learn lifesaving firefighting and rescue skills to prepare them for the variety of emergencies and incidents they will attend as career firefighters.

The recruits came from a range of professional backgrounds including trades, education and horticulture, and 12 of the new graduates have backgrounds in CFA as volunteer firefighters.

The recruits will take up postings at stations across Victoria at Mornington, Point Cook, Cranbourne, Craigieburn, Warrnambool, Bendigo, Corio, Greenvale, Rowville, Springvale, Hoppers Crossing, Rosebud, Sunbury, Patterson River and Pakenham.

CFA has more than 1,800 career firefighters and 55,000 volunteers across the state.
