Getting Life Back On Track For Injured Victorians

11 December 2017

Innovation and projects that support severely injured Victorians could be boosted by grants of up to $50,000 through the Transport Accident Commission’s (TAC) Small Grants Program.

The Andrews Labor Government is encouraging applications for the program, which aims to improve the lives of people with an acquired brain injury (ABI) or spinal cord injury (SCI) by offering grants to innovative and user-led projects in the community.

Each year the program provides up to $250,000 to help maximise the independence of injured Victorians. Funds from the program are available to assist projects that support all Victorians with an ABI or SCI, regardless of cause.

Recent recipients include:

  • Heads Together for ABI – to help form a pilot program for ABILity, which aims to create ongoing leadership training for its volunteers
  • Alfred Health - feasibility of ‘segmented rehabilitation’ as an early return-to-work model of care in ABI rehabilitation in Victoria
  • AQA Victoria – spinal cord injury regional peer support network
  • Joy of the Earth Community Garden – construction of accessible garden beds

The TAC Small Grants Program funds Victorian community-based projects undertaken by a range of organisations, including not-for-profits, LGAs, universities, state government departments or authorities and trusts.

The program also targets projects that address the National Disability Strategy priority areas including, inclusive and accessible communities; rights protection, justice and regulation; economic security; personal and community support; learning and skills; health and wellbeing.
