Getting It Done: New Home For Hockey And Lacrosse In Hume

22 November 2017

The Andrews Labor Government is getting things done, with works complete on the new Hume Hockey and Lacrosse Centre at Newbury Park in Craigieburn.

Minister for Sport John Eren joined Member for Yuroke Ros Spence and representatives from Hume City Council met today to officially open the new pavilion, made possible by a $600,000 grant from the Victorian Government.

With more people choosing to live and play grassroots sport in our outer suburbs, the Andrews Labor Government is making sure that communities like Yuroke have the modern facilities they deserve.

The new multipurpose pavilion in Hume features player and referee change rooms, better facilities for fans, a community room, canteen and kitchen.

It’s the final piece in the new Hume Hockey and Lacrosse Centre – now home to the growing ranks of the Hume Hockey Club, local lacrosse, and a home base for junior Hockey Victoria and Lacrosse Victoria development clinics.

The pavilion, along with the new synthetic pitch, puts Hume in the box seat to host major competitions, providing a boost not only for regional hockey and lacrosse but also for the local economy.

It also gives local clubs and community groups room to attract more members, especially juniors and women and girls keen to compete.

The Labor Government’s $120 million Community Sports Infrastructure Fund is upgrading grassroots clubs so communities like Craigieburn can cater for growing demand and build the facilities they need.

The fund also includes $14 million to build new female-friendly change rooms across Victoria, meaning female players will never again have to use make-shift areas to change.
