The National Gallery of Victoria has welcomed its 100,000th visitor to the exhibition The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier: From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk.
The exhibition has been popular with crowds from all over Victoria and Australia since it opened on 17 October 2014. Melbourne is the only venue to show the exhibition in the Asia-Pacific region.
It showcases items designed for Australian icons including model Andreja Pejic, singer Kylie Minogue and actresses Gemma Ward and Nicole Kidman. The spectacular display features over 140 elaborate garments spanning more than 40 years. They include the first dress Gaultier designed in 1971 and corsets from Madonna’s Blonde Ambition tour.
The exhibition is curated by Canadian and former catwalk model Thierry-Maxime Loriot. It has been organised by the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts with the help of Maison Jean Paul Gaultier, Paris.
More than a million visitors have already flocked to see the exhibition on its world-wide tour, with participant cities including London, New York and Montreal. The exhibition will run until 8 February, 2015.
