Volunteer firefighters with the Hoppers Crossing CFA will remain at their current station, thanks to the Andrews Labor Government, delivering a major boost to the four-decade old brigade.
Minister for Emergency Services Minister James Merlino today announced the site will remain on Derrimut Road, a decision which was strongly backed by volunteers and the wider community.
Hoppers Crossing Fire Brigade’s volunteer members had expressed a strong wish to remain at their existing home, rather than relocate to a new station that is being built in neighbouring Tarneit.
The Tarneit station and the Derrimut Road station will both be operational, meaning the local community will be protected by two well-equipped stations.
Two volunteer brigade appliances will remain at Hoppers Crossing, enabling members to continue to respond to incidents and keep people and properties safe.
The Tarneit station, which will house career firefighters, is on track to open before the end of the year.
The Hoppers Crossing Fire Brigade was established in 1977 and has 72 volunteers based there. In the 2017-18 financial year the brigade attended 1592 callouts as either the primary or secondary response brigade.
