Labor is delivering the upgraded Ian Potter State Theatre in October, six months ahead of schedule.
18,000 free tickets are now up for grabs for Housewarming, in what will be the first major milestone of the $1.7 billion Melbourne Arts Precinct Transformation project.
Housewarming runs from 9-12 October, showcasing free shows from some of Victoria's best artists, including:
- The Australian Ballet
- Opera Australia
- Melbourne Theatre Company
- Circus Oz
- The Victorian College of the Arts
- Emma Donovan
- Eliza Hull, and
- The Listies.
The weekend of celebration also features guided tours, DJ sets, roaming performances and a laser light show.
Following a two-year redevelopment, theatregoers can expect extensive refurbishments that bring the Southern Hemisphere’s largest stage to contemporary standards, while maintaining the heritage features Victorians love.
Major lighting and sound improvements will enhance guest experience and for the first time patrons with mobility challenges can use seating across all three levels.
Works are progressing on the Theatres Building, including the construction of new eateries and bars, a new stage door, loading dock and flexible rehearsal area.
The Melbourne Arts Precinct Transformation includes The Fox: NGV Contemporary, set to be Australia’s largest gallery of contemporary art, and Laak Boorndap, a new 18,000sqm urban garden.
The transformation is expected to create 11,000 jobs over the life of the build.
