Trains will stop at Flagstaff Station on weekends from 1 January 2016, opening up the north west corner of the city for the first time.
The change will improve access to Queen Victoria Market and Flagstaff Gardens, and make it easier for workers and local residents in the area to get home safer and sooner.
The long awaited opening of Flagstaff Station on weekends and public holidays is part of new 2016 Victorian train, tram and bus timetables released today.
The new timetables also include details of overnight services as part of the Andrews Labor Government’s Night Network trial of 24/7 public transport on weekends.
Night Trains will run every hour from Flinders Street Station on all metropolitan lines, and Night Trams will operate every 30 minutes on six key routes – 19, 67, 75, 86, 96 and 109.
Night Buses will depart from the CBD around every half-an-hour, and from suburban stations including Elsternwick, Ringwood, Dandenong and Frankston every hour.
In addition, Night Coaches will run to Bendigo, Ballarat, Traralgon and Geelong, with services departing Southern Cross coach station around 2:00am and picking up at major stations along the route.
