The Allan Labor Government is getting on with removing the Warrigal Road, Mentone and Parkers Road, Parkdale level crossings and delivering a brand-new new Parkdale Station to remove congestion and improve accessibility.

Designs released today showcase what the new precinct will look like when level crossings are gone and the station opens to passengers next year. Locals will enjoy modern facilities, filled with natural light – featuring stairs and lifts to the platforms, more lighting and better CCTV.

The elevated rail bridge will unlock new open spaces as well as sporting and recreational facilities for the community to enjoy, including a basketball half court, open-air gym, village green, a community garden, and a nature-based play area.

The new station precinct and open space will connect Como Parade East and Como Parade West, providing easier access to the shops, schools, and beach for residents and visitors. A new shared use path also will connect Parkdale to Cheltenham via Mentone.

A car park will be built with more than 45 upgraded commuter car parking spaces and there will be more short-term parking spaces for Parkdale village once the station is completed.

These final designs have been informed by more than 1600 pieces of feedback received since starting community consultation in late 2021.

A 1.8km temporary track has already been constructed so the Frankston Line can keep running during major works continuing into next year. Parkdale Station will remain closed for several months until the new station is completed.

The Labor Government is making the Frankston Line level crossing free by 2029 and improving safety, reducing congestion and allowing more trains to run more often.

“Removing 110 level crossings across Melbourne will transform the way people move locally, and Parkdale and Mentone locals will soon reap the benefits of zero boom gate down time and a brand-new station.”

“We have listened to the community, and the feedback has helped shape the final designs for the project, including the new Parkdale Station, and the look and feel of the new rail bridge.”
