Labor is supporting fibre broadband to more than 19,000 homes and businesses across 70 towns and suburbs.
The new $133 million program is a partnership between nbn co. and Connecting Victoria.
The investment will deliver fibre-to-the-premises technology, improving internet access for regional communities.
That means download speeds of up to one gigabit per second.
Fibre-to-the-premises upgrades extend high-speed fibre optic cables that plug directly into each premise.
This means residents and businesses can access download speeds of up to 1 Gigabit per second.
The first upgrades are expected to finish in 2027, with the rest rolling out through to 2030.
More than 2,000 homes and businesses in Ararat, Donald, Castlemaine, Horsham, Mortlake, Sebastopol and
Wendouree can swap fixed wireless for fibre.
The upgrades are enabled by the expansion of nbn co’s national fibre upgrade program, backed by a Commonwealth funding package of $3.8 billion announced in January 2025, including $800 million from nbn co.
This investment builds on more than 100,000 homes and businesses across more than 180 towns and suburbs benefiting from Connecting Victoria.
To find out if you are eligible for current or future upgrades, visit the ‘check your address’ function on the NBN Co. website, or register for updates through nbn.com.au/register.
