The Allan Labor Government has fast tracked a major expansion to an RSL retirement village.
Minister Sonya Kilkenny approved the redevelopment of Vasey RSL Care in Frankston South.
The project was approved through Labor’s Development Facilitation Program which is slashing red tape.
The Development Facilitation Program has brought approval times down to just four months – 10 months faster than council processes.
The project will allow hundreds more veterans, find a place to call home.
The $320 million redevelopment will almost triple the site’s capacity – growing from 210 to more than 600 residents.
The upgraded village will deliver a new 80-bed residential aged care facility and 414 retirement units.
This includes a mix off assisted living, villas, townhouses and apartments.
A quarter of all units will also be set aside as affordable housing – ensuring more veterans can access the care and support they deserve.
Residents will also benefit from a new community hub and easy access to healthcare, shops, education and public transport – keeping them connected to the local community.
This project has been shaped by community consultation, with changes including more trees retained and planted across the site.
While we’re getting on with building homes and supporting veterans, the Liberals continue to oppose the very reforms that make projects like this possible – locking Victorians out of the housing market.
