Extra Transport Services For Spring Racing Carnival

03 November 2023

The Allan Labor Government will roll out almost 1,000 extra services across the Metro Trains network to get passengers home safer and sooner from Melbourne’s world-famous Spring Racing Carnival.

More than 290 extra train services will run on Melbourne Cup Day and extra staff, Authorised Officers and crews will be positioned at key locations - with 150,000 fans expected to catch the train over the four days of the Carnival at Flemington.

There will also be additional trams to get passengers to Flemington on the 57 tram route.

In addition to regular services, shuttle services will run between showgrounds and Flinders Street Station to give racegoers more options to get to Derby Day, Oakes Day, Stakes Day and the Melbourne Cup.

With extra daytime services and all-night transport on Friday and Saturday nights - public transport is the best way to ride to the races.

Metro Trains’ dedicated team will be closely monitoring network performance from its control centre, known as Metrol, throughout the Spring Racing Carnival.

The Metrol control centre monitors thousands of services a day and is equipped with CCTV to quickly respond to safety incidents.

Staff at Metrol also play an important role in providing real-time information to passengers and keeping the network moving efficiently.
