Minister for Multicultural Affairs Robin Scott today launched the Vietnamese Community in Australia – Victorian Chapter’s Vietnamese in Australia: 40 Years of Settlement exhibition at the Immigration Museum.

This year marks the commemoration of 40 years since the first arrival of Vietnamese migrants settled on our shores following the end of the Vietnam War in 1975.

Today, more than 200,000 Australians claim Vietnamese ancestry, 70,000 of which reside in Victoria.

The highly anticipated photographic exhibition is a wonderful opportunity for the Vietnamese community in Victoria to share their experiences of settlement. It provides the wider community a chance to see their journey through vivid and moving images.

This exhibition will help to preserve and celebrate the successful legacy of Vietnamese settlement in Australia.

The Andrews Labor Government is proud to have partnered with the Vietnamese Community of Australia (VCA) by providing $200,000 in the 2015-16 Victorian Budget. This funding will help to establish a lasting legacy to ensure that Vietnamese culture and history is shared and acknowledged among future younger generations.

The Labor Government allocated $100,000 for a feasibility study for the first stage of the Vietnamese Museum and another $100,000 to fund the Vietnamese Dual Identity Leadership Program over two years.

Victoria’s Vietnamese community – the second largest in Australia – is vibrant and diverse and has enriched so many aspects of our inclusive and multicultural society.
