Local Labor MP Maree Edwards will chair the Community Consultative Taskforce that will advise the Andrews Labor Government on the introduction of Bendigo Metro Rail.
Making the announcement at Bendigo Railway Station today, Minister for Public Transport, Jacinta Allan, also released the Terms of Reference for the Taskforce, which will provide recommendations to government on community feedback, technical requirements and service specifications for the $2 million project.
The Taskforce will be supported by a Technical Working Group made up of experts from the City of Greater Bendigo, Public Transport Victoria, V/Line, local transport operators and the Department of Economic Development, Jobs, Transport and Resources.
The Taskforce will engage with the community to inform its recommendations regarding:
- likely demand for the commuter train service
- service frequency
- coordination with buses
- potential infrastructure requirements
- promotion of the new services
Bendigo Metro Rail will deliver a dedicated commuter train service within the Bendigo area, stopping at Epsom, Eaglehawk, Kangaroo Flat and Bendigo.
The recommendations of the Community Consultative Taskforce will be provided to government by the end of June 2015.
