Minister for Training and Skills and Higher Education Gayle Tierney today announced the appointment of 33 directors for Victoria’s TAFEs, further strengthening the sector across the state following unprecedented investment from the Andrews Labor Government.
An independently-chaired panel supported by a professional recruitment firm were engaged to help select the TAFE directors, with specific consideration given to the strategic priorities of each TAFE and further boosting diversity on TAFE boards.
The public Expression of Interest process saw more than 300 people apply for the positions, with 100 candidates interviewed. Of the 33 appointments made, 27 are incumbent board members and six are new appointees.
David Bowen is the inaugural CEO of the National Disability Insurance Agency and is a new appointment to The Gordon’s Board.
As the National Disability Insurance Scheme’s inaugural CEO, Mr Bowen is an expert on the NDIS and has over 20 years’ public sector service delivery experience with a focus on human services.
Katrina Lai is a new appointment to Bendigo Kangan Institute’s Board and has a background in professional strategy consulting, law and public sector governance.
She has more than 20 years’ experience in management and business and has consulted to both State and Federal governments, as well as a wide range of industries locally and in Asia.
The 33 appointed directors have a strong mix of skills in corporate governance, vocational training and education, finance, law, and business, together with links to the local community and industry.
With the latest round of appointments, women now occupy 52 per cent of ministerially appointed Victorian TAFE board positions, exceeding the Labor Government’s policy for women to make up at least 50 percent of all appointments made to paid Victorian Government boards and court positions.
