Victorians are encouraged to dig deep and donate to those in need when Red Shield Appeal volunteers come knocking in a few weeks’ time.
Kickstarting the annual fundraiser in Victoria today, Minister for Disability, Ageing and Carers Luke Donnellan announced the Andrews Labor Government would be donating $150,000 to the appeal this year.
The long running fundraiser, which includes a volunteer-driven doorknock on the 25 and 26 of May supports the Salvation Army’s delivery of vital social welfare and community services.
The Red Shield Appeal aims to raise $79 million across the country.
In Victoria, the Salvation Army provides more than 600 social programs and activities, including disability programs, family welfare assistance, refuges for women in crisis, drug and alcohol rehabilitation, and homelessness services.
The Labor Government provides more than $80 million per year to the Salvation Army to continue its programs and services for vulnerable members of the community across the state.
